Bredal A/S

The foundation and naming of the company

The company was founded by Poul Thøgersen, who was the owner of the old blacksmith in town, and Niels Sørensen who was an inventive young man, Niels Sørensens ideas became reality in Poul Thøgersens  blacksmith, and they made a joined company. After only a few years Poul Thøgersen left the company, and local farmer Johannes Buhl Jensen took over his place.
The company name which in many years was Maskinfabrikken Bredal A/S (saying Machine manufactor Bredal in danish), was named after the little village, where one of the factories is still situated. The village is situated a little north of the city of Vejle in the south of Denmark. In 2007 the name of the company has been changed to Bredal A/S, an easier and more logic name in the markets outside the danish.

The Production

In the early start of the company, the production was mainly regular blacksmith jobs, repairwork and production of smaller products, for the farmers in the local area.
During the 1940's the company was a regular blacksmith, operating mainly in the local area. The real Bredal production of farm machinery in larger scales did not start till the end of the 1940's, where Niels Sørensen entered the company.

The history of the company Bredal as producer of farmmachinery, starts int he year 1949. The second world war was over, and the agriculture was developing fast, because of the Marshall help. This was when the two founders of the company Bredal joined up, it was the owner of the local blacksmith in the village Bredal, Poul Thøgersen, and the inventive Niels Sørensen.
They started producing farm trailers, which could be drawn by both horses or tractors (see picture), these trailers were a huge succes, and the positive experience with the agricultural machinery, made the company head in this direction.

In many years the company produced all kinds of farm machinery, from the start the production was concentrated around farm trailers, but quickly the line of products included, harrows, fertilizers, manure spreaders etc. The largest succes during the fifties was an iron wheel to mount on the side of the tractor wheel, for a better grip.
The foundation of todays production was made between Christmas and New Year 1965, where Niels Sørensen made the first lime spreader.  This spreader is the one that later was called B 46. The production of lime / fertilizer spreaders became a large succes and quickly the company had to outsource other products to supply the market with the spreaders demanded. In the 1970ties the demand for spreaders reached a point where the factory in Bredal no longer could supply, because of the local developing plan the company could not expand the existing facilities. So in 1976 a new division was build in Bredballe a suburb to the city of Vejle, here there was build brand new and modern production facilitites. And the company could again supply the market with the demanded spreaders. During the 1980ties Bredal developed the well known B 2 -B 8 series which was the first trailer spreaders made especially for fertilizer spreading, these became an enoumous succes in the Danish market especially, where thousands has been sold.
The production today is still concentrating on spreading of various material, and today a larger part of the production is sold for caretaking of golfcourses, parks etc. But the largest part is still sold for the agricultural business.
Bredal is today one of the largest producers of high capacity fertilizer and lime spreaders in the world, and the market for Bredal is no longer just the backyard, today the company has importers in most parts of the world, and the red Bredal colour is known in most parts of the agricultural world.
